Aften Fairbanks said: I would love to have the option of opting out of Discovery Messages. I honestly don't ever use them, and when I see the message notification I think that it is someone that I contacted about family history. And it is always discovery messages. And I get disappointed and sad. You don't want people to be disappointed and sad do you?

    Spam = unwanted/unsolicited advertising messages.
    Discovery Messages = unwanted/unsolicited advertising messages.
    Therefore, Discovery Messages = spam.

For some reason, the PR department has resorted to a devious method of sending these to us. They ignore the opt out that many of us selected and basically treat our choice as no choice at all -- Thus, we get the spam (Juli's term).

    A number of us have asked that they honor the opt-out, but to no avail. It seems that their devious nature has overridden our opt-out do that we no longer have the freedom to choose whether or not we want to receive these messages.

    A feel this action is disingenuous and although the intentions are good (You've received a name for the temple!), in this particular case, it follows my step-mother's line and while something that is worth pursuing, I have enough names as it is in my Temple list to keep me busy even if a temple was only a few minutes away (it isn't).

    Jeff Wiseman said: So even though you can turn off the spam email that results from discoveries, you CANNOT prevent all of the spam messages in your general messages area that totally clog the interface.

    The one-way messages from FS (e.g., discoveries, temple, etc.) are completely different in priority, application, and usefulness from the 2-way conversation messages that they have now been crammed in together with.

    Note that it also appears that they have provided a way for a person to disable any email messages resulting from conversation messages sent to them inquiring about how they may have screwed up records in the tree.

    I believe that "FamilySearch: is "Working" on it.
    Lets hope the 'Solution' (ie. fix) is sooner, rather than later.

    There has been a significant "Change" in the "Notifications" 'Tab' in our "Settings":

    Hey. All. FYI. "Notifications" in our "Settings" has CONSIDERABLY "Changed" in the last 9 days or so ...
    https://getsatisfaction.com/familysea...

    Hopefully, the ABILITY to "Turn OFF" ONE certain "Category" (ie. "Discovery") of 'Messages' in "User Messaging" in "FamilySearch" is a definite "work in progress" ...

    We can live in hope ...

    Although ... 'Yes' ... patience is wearing thin ...
