Marriage to be included in Vitals section

I also suggest that if you enter a marriage either in the couple box or under the individual that it automatically populates to the other section (e.g., enter the marriage in the couple box and then it feeds automatically to the individual vitals section for each spouse).

Beverly Snow said: Because it would be much easier to see significant events in an individual's life rather than having to scroll way down to the marriage section.0

Paul said: I agree that marriage data is rather hidden away and the detail should be more clearly displayed. It would be "a start" if reason statements were openly displayed in the same way as in the Vitals section on the main person page.
The first time I clicked on the "pencil" link I was surprised to find a number of marriage event details. As you probably know, the one that is displayed on the person page relates to the event with the earliest date.
It is not a good idea that these dates / events can be carried across during the source linking process, as they often refer to a date and place where the marriage licence was issued, or banns called, then replace the perfectly correct marriage event (ceremony) detail that was already displayed.
I may seem to be drifting off-topic, but am trying to highlight why (as has been requested by users for many years) the whole area of dealing with display and recording of marriage (and related) data needs to be thoroughly revamped.0 -
Adrian Bruce said: Agreed. A certain other genealogical tree provider whose name starts with "A" and finishes with "y" manages to put the couple events such as marriage in the "normal" list of events for both parties. And if you update the date of the marriage (say) for one spouse, the update is automatically visible on the other spouse's page - once you've refreshed, I guess.
The result is something much easier to read, with consistent handling of sources etc between individual and couple events.0 -
Tom Huber said: Yes, that is true, Adrian. But then, the information about a person in the Ancestry tree is already arranged in a timeline fashion. In the FamilySearch profile, the information is divided, with vitals, other, and family sections. If they were all combined and displayed like they are in the Ancestry Tree, then the marriage information would be more visible.
I suppose that a Family Tree user could enter (custom) events in the other section for all the various elements regarding a couple relationship. Those would then show up in a chronological order according to the date in the event.
But one of the reasons for splitting up the sections in a profile in their own tabs was to facilitate loading in areas with poor internet connection between those users and the servers. We were told that the Philippines suffers from this problem and was used for testing the new split section profile back when it was introduced a few years ago.0 -
Adrian Bruce said: True - but I can't imagine putting the marriage details into the Vitals would cause much of a load? Although would all relationship events go into Vitals? Should some go into Other? Makes it a bit messier if so.0

The spousal/couple relationships are between two people. There might be multiple couple relationships to the person page you are on.
1. So would you show the spouse name? Can you click on the name?
2. If there are multiple marriages would you show them all in the vitals? What would you show to distinguish them?
3. Is there a way to get to the relationship, or to a flyout ?
4. What spousal event would you show? If they were married twice and divorced twice would you show them all? The date and the place? There's been multple requests that the product is showing the "right one", whether its the latest, earliest, not the divorce...
5. There might be Sources and Notes to those relationships. Would you show them, or have links to them?
6. Beyond seeing any of the above information will the user want to act upon them? Like change the name, change the event, delete, ...?
7. Are the couple relationships the real underlying data? Do the vitals info have to be exactly synced to the those relationships?
8. When you do a Merge would these come over?
9. Someday more diverse kinds of relationships will be supported. Would those show up here?

10. The vitals section is meant to be very limited, just enough info. Other requests have wanted to add the following to the vitals display
Stillborn, Cremation, Twin, Never married, No children ... Should those be added as well?
11. Would the marriage info show up in the Person banner (where the lifespan is today)? Would it show in the pop-up Person card you see when you click on a name?0
