Allow hints to be ignored

Gary Kohl said: I love hints and respond to them all of the time, however sometimes there is too much of a good thing. For example, multiple marriage records. I have several couples who already have 2-3 marriage records on their page and then I get 2-3 more hints. Most of the time there is some minor difference between them, so I can understand that the software is sensing that it is different so it adds the hint. I would love to see a third option to ignore the hint.

Gordon Collett said: I think it is good to go ahead and attach all of them because this connects the entry in the historical record database to the correct person in Family Tree. That way when people are searching in those databases, they can jump directly to Family Tree to see everything that is already known about the person rather than continue to retrace the steps of past researchers.
If the hint is not attached, the little pedigree icon will not be there.0 -

If not attached, then there is a possibility that the source will be used to create a duplicate profile for the couple, which will have to be merged sometime later.
Part of the problem is how the "marriage" record is cataloged, Not all are marriage records, but are related to them and include indexes to various marriage type books at the courthouse. After a while these can become ragged and so a new index is produced by the courthouse staff. Both are filmed and in the case of the older index, they often are missing pages and the pages are out of order. Then there are affidavits, which are declarations required by local laws to allow a person to apply for a marriage license. The actual marriage date is nowhere to be found in that record. Likewise, not all marriage licenses have marriage information recorded with them, but are a legal document authorizing the marriage. A marriage document can consist of a return, a Marriage Certificate, a courthouse book of the marriages performed in the local jurisdiction, and even church records of the marriage. These are all apply to or are associated with the same event and all need to be sourced. When the record is an index, affidavit, or license, I change the title to reflect what the source actually is after I have sourced the record. It takes a lot of work, and is something that I would like to see FamilySearch fix. But it also prevents other users from creating duplicate entries for the person(s) involved in the event or who are part of the record.0
