Weekly Changes made to people we are watching

In the coming weeks, FamilySearch will begin sending these notifications as a message within FamilySearch.org instead of sending an email. Learn more. I think this is a very very very bad idea, why because I keep watch on many many families and individuals, and this week alone I have 56 people and 184 changes, and you are telling us that these are not going to be sent to our E-mail any longer, but to our message box on Familysearch, what a huge amount of message I will then be receiving. Why not suggest to others instead, that in order to make sure they see their weekly changes, that they place your E-mail address in their contacts. Having my Weekly Changes coming to my E-mail has been good for me for a very very long time now. I think it is a huge mistake to start sending our weekly changes to Familysearch messages instead of our E-mail. I take my Family History very seriously and I work on it daily.

If you work in Family Tree daily, why do you need to rely on emails? I check the "Changes to People I'm Watching" section every day. By the time the email arrives it is pretty well useless to me, as I have already noted all the reported changes.
I know other users complained when there was period when these emails were not being sent / received, but I do not / would not miss them at all.0 -

Paul said: BTW - I hope the developers are not seriously considering the "Following" section, currently appearing in the beta version, as a replacement for the current "Lists" feature (that includes IDs we are watching and, separately, changes that are made to them). The current set-up (apart from the "Unknown Name" problem) ain't broke, so please don't "fix" it.0

The current split into two sections works fine for me. The only problems with "Lists" in the production version are the "Unknown Name" IDs and inability to filter, both in the "Changes..." section, and reported in another thread.
It's the CURRENT "Lists" feature that I'm saying ISN'T broken or in need of fixing - apart from these two bugs. I don't see how replacing "Lists" with "Following" (as seen in the beta version) would be of any benefit ( at least to me).0 -

But on Beta there is a replacement for the Lists screens user interface. So the current Lists screens will be replaced with the Beta I Am Following version. Do you see any things that you will miss or less useable when FS replace the Lists with the new I Am Following UI?
Also note that in Beta there is a My Contributions menu with 3 tabs: Stats, My Changes and Private People. I think most users will like this. Any additional comments?0 -
Paul said: The "My Contributions" addition is fine, but from the viewpoint of my personal use, I just can't see any advantages of "Following" compared to the current "Lists" feature.0

gasmodels said: The only real difference I see is that the list is not as compact. It appears that the list of persons following and list of changes are very similar to the current lists. However, I do not see very many changes in Beta so it is difficult to determine how useful the "following" version will be. My initial response is that the formatting takes up much more screen space and will require me to scroll more that the current list.0

Since the beta site is updated only once or twice a year, we really won't be able to tell much as to what will be working or not working. This is one of those areas where a lot of the bug discoveries will take place in production.0
