Try again Paul. Maybe it's a momentary internet glitch (like when I run my microwave) :)

Paul said: Thanks, Joe. Still didn't work for me - I even tried adding as a .jpg instead of a .png image to see if that might make any difference. Will try again later.

Paul said: No - still no success. Have deleted cookies, restarted the PC, but still my attempts to add an image here stop / freeze on "Uploading..."

Shutting down for the night (11pm in London) and will try again tomorrow. Meanwhile, any "overnight" suggestions for a workaround / possible reason for this problem will be gratefully received.

    Windows 10 using Chrome.

So, yes, Chrome does seem to be the problem.

Paul said: BTW - As FamilySearch is not directly responsible for this website, what is the best way to report problems like this? To GetSat? If so, it appears I would need to sign-up to their website to get any assistance via their Help Center.

Jordi's comments appear to confirm the problem lies with the LATEST version of Chrome.

Jeff Wiseman said: It is possible to create a case that goes directly to the GetSatisfaction admins without actually having a GetSatisfaction specific account. I did this in September 2018 when the entire GetSatisfaction database system went wonky:
    https://getsatisfaction.com/familysea...

I tried getting info from the FS community groups to no avail. I finally figured it out myself:

    1) Go to getsatisfaction.com
    2) From the "Support" menu, select "Get Help"
    3) Click on the "Submit and Ticket" link
    4) Fill out the form a select "submit"

You will receive emails directly from a GetSatisfaction admin.

The original question was something like "How do you report a problem with the problem reporting system when the problem reporting system is broken?"

Paul said: Thanks for that advice, Jeff. Not very computer savvy, but used the form suggested to report:

"A number of us who use the https://getsatisfaction.com/familysearch forum suspect the latest version of Chrome prevents the "Add Image" function from working. When trying to add a screenshot, we click on "Upload", which switches to an "Uploading" message. However, this just hangs indefinitely. Would your engineers please give this matter their attention, as being able to post images / screenshots is very important to our collaborative work. Seems to still be working okay with Firefox, but not all of us have that. Thanks."

Paul said: Just to update you, I got a prompt reply from a GetSat guy, as below:

    "Hi Paul,

As per my observation, this is a browser issue and not an issue that is occurring from the Get satisfaction.com. We are unable to replicate this behavior due to this I would suggest to try on Incognito chrome mode. The reason we are suggesting this because we do not have control over chrome functionality and this will be handled by Chrome developers.

If the platform was not functioning then it should not work through firefox or through Edge browser but these depends on the browser version and the capability that has been enabled by the Chrome developers and as conveyed we do not have any control over this."

Was hoping there just might be some liaison between them and Chrome when issues like this arise. Not too keen on Firefox, but short of the suggested "incognito" option working, looks like I'll have to load it to my PC.

Paul said: Nope, as suspected "going incognito" didn't work, so it's looks like a Firefox download is imminent.

Jeff Wiseman said: Paul, for what it's worth, I personally would trust Firefox over Chrome ANY day. (I'll probably get fried for this, but...)

Firefox is maintained and improved by an open consortium of volunteer developers. These are people who do not really make money on the product, and like ourselves, HATE hidden spying on their data. As a Result they focus a lot on protecting the users of Firefox from all kinds of undesired and hidden functions that other "free" browsers might have. They are not motivated by the profit-oriented approaches taken by other companies

Chrome, on the other hand, is distributed by a company that wants as much of your data as it can get for a number of purposes, all of which are designed to make money from it.

I think that you might get to like Firefox a lot more once you get to know it :-)

Paul said: Yes, at one time (on my old computer) I use Firefox as a first choice. Then the graphics / fonts came to look awful in Family Tree, so I switched to Chrome.

I've been using Family Tree with Firefox today and found the appearance is now fine. Think I'll be taking your advice. Thanks again for your help, Jeff, with this and a number of other problems I've brought to the forum.
