Paul said: If an individual married more than once I thought that checking the appropriate box saved the preferred spouse relationship indefinitely. However, I have noticed that if I look at the branch with "the other" spouse, the box becomes unchecked and the tick appears in the box showing the relationship with the other spouse!

Is this a fault in the program or is it always necessary to go back and "recheck" the preferred spouse after looking at the branch with the other spouse?

    I have this problem too.

sometimes it lets you enter additional spouse, sometimes you have to choose preferred.

yeh - looks like there may be some needed tweaks to the "preferred spouse" option

but as said previously - the intent is for FS to show you the tree in the same way you previously set it.

BUT - this may not currently always work consistently - if you are navigating the tree from a different perspective - ( via a different path to the couple). (on a pedigree chart, a descendants chart - or navigating around different paths in the family tree).

I have two suggestions for PREFERRED SPOUSE option:

    1. Move the Preferred Spouses box into the #1 position on the Family Members/Spouses and Children view.
    2. Show the Preferred Spouse on the View Relationship screen as the spouse rather than the first spouse.
