Robert Maxwell Family Information, Greene County, Arkansas
I'm searching for information for my GGGrandfather Robert Maxwell 9MQV-K4Y
B/1846 in Arkansas or Alabama (Probably Arkansas) Spouse Cynthia Ann Harbor 9MQV-KHC ... 9 Children.
I keep hitting a brick wall when I try to find him as a child, or past 1870 in a census. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. The information I have is from my grandmother.

In the 1900 Census it shows Cynthia Maxwell widowed. She has had 11 children with 8 of them still living. It shows that all the children listed in the census that the father was born in Arkansas. I did check for any Civil War records but could not find any quickly. I would try a bit more indepth research there. Also, I would check for land records in Arkansas for the last name of Maxwell. Also, I would check for probate records by the last name of Maxwell around 1865-67 where it would give Robert Maxwell money to move to Tennessee where he married his sweetheart.
I did not check the map to see where Giles Tennessee is in conjunction to the Arkansas border to see if they may have just gone across state lines. You might check that. Let me know if you find out any more and don't forget to check WIKI FamilySearch in both Tennessee and Arkansas. Here is the link to Arkansas:

Just another thought spend some time doing Newspapers. That has rescued me many of times.

Kris, Thanks so much for the insight... I'll do as you suggested. I think my main problem was that I kept thinking he was born in Alabama, until I saw the 1900 Census that states Arkansas. I've checked the area where they are from in Arkansas and there are several Maxwell's there. I'll keep digging. The other puzzle is him going to Tennessee. What took him there? Did he know Cynthia before went there? How long was he there? What did he do to support themselves? Lots of questions... too few answers. I appreciate your time thinking about and looking into it.
