Help! I am trying to locate the family of Jeptha Hutchins (LDVJ-M22) and his wife Honor or Nancy in
This couple were both born in SC and had three children by 1850, but I can't find them prior to 1860. No marriage records either. I've been trying to find any information on the wife/wives, and don't have any info about them except their names, ages, place of birth. Would you have any suggestions of where to look or how I can find them prior to 1860? Thank you so so much!!

Hello Angeline,
I'm sorry. I can't find him anywhere. I looked in: The Old Pendleton South Carolina database, ancestry, myheritage, Google, Geni, FindmyPast had a Civil War record that might be him but no real information, Genealogies, IGI.
Jeptha should show up somewhere. I searched Hutchins/Hutchens Hutchinson, J Hutchins/Hutchens.
No Nancy either. When I search a census, I also look at pages 3 back and 3 forward. That is how I found Lafayette and Josiah Hutchins on the 1850 Census.
We need someone much better than me at this. I'm going to tag some folks that might be able to help. @Dennis J Yancey @Brenda Janvier Williams @Steve Walker16

Hello Angeline, I'm so happy to see your reply. Sometimes they don't show up on our feed. So I went over what I did last time and tried Google. Here is what I think.
On a Census, when searching for a family, I go 3 pages forward, then 3 pages backward from the starting. So if the name is on page 13, I search through 14 to 16, and then I search from 13- 10.
- Looking at the United States Census, 1860 South Carolina Anderson for Hutchins, on page 13; https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-9BS6-R16?i=12&cc=1473181: 13
There is a James A Hutchins and family. James is 31 and wife is 32.
Then on page 17 is Jeptha and his family. Jeptha is 35 and Nancy is 33. Both born in South Carolina.
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-9BS6-R16?i=12&cc=1473181
And on the following page 14 is a continuation of some Hutchins.
Often times the families stay in the same area, and as they grow up the children often stay in the same area. And marry people they have grown up with.
So Jeptha and Nancy were married in 1842 in South Carolina.
In the 1840 Census we can see on this search list a lot of Hutchins in South Carolina. No other names aside from the head of household.
So what I had to do with my Bruce folks was go through the 1840 Census for Bruises', write down the names and ages of the males and females. Sometimes I would have to print out the 1840 Census page where my name Bruce was found and really look and analyze the data. So boring. And I put the pages alongside one another to compare. I found that one family of Bruces were close page wise, to my family of Jenkins. That way I found them both.
Then go on to the 1850 Census and compare where they may have moved. Did another family move nearby from the 1840 Census, that may be Nancy's family?
I've gone over my searches for your Jeptha. I couldn't find a book. No one knows Nancy's last name. Google search brought up some people studying Jeptha. But there again, no one knows Nancy's last name.
You may make a breakthrough for Nancy. Post it and many accolades for you.
I did that for my Bruces' and Jenkins' found a relative on FB and everything.
Good hunting.
Sincerely,
Anitra
