Hello! I am helping a friend who needs help finding more information on some of her ancestors: Nancy
They were born in South Carolina, but the last census that Nancy and her family appear on is the 1880 census in High Tower District, Forsyth County, Georgia. I can't find any of the children after that, except their son Javan. He ended up in Texas, but I don't think any of the other Hutchins family went with him because I didn't find any other Hutchins living near him. I
Do you have any suggestions for me of where I should check? Thank you so much!

Hello Angeline,
Try ancestry.com. I was able to see both Jeptha Hutchins and Nancy with a last name, in the Ancestry Trees. Not good sources but a start.
Good Luck,

Thanks for your quick response Anitra,
Ancestry Tree has Nancy's married surname, not her maiden name. If you're referring to her middle name of Honor. Jeptha's wife was enumerated as Honor Hutchins in the 1860 census. So it's either a different wife, or it must have been a nickname. Any other leads you can give me?

Hello Angeline, I'm so happy to see your reply. Sometimes they don't show up on our feed. So I went over what I did last time and some new things, and tried Google. Here is what I think.
On a Census, when searching for a family, I go 3 pages forward, then 3 pages backward from the starting. So if the name is on page 13, I search through 14 to 16, and then I search from 13- 10.
- Looking at the United States Census, 1860 South Carolina Anderson for Hutchins, on page 13; https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-9BS6-R16?i=12&cc=1473181: 13
There is a James A Hutchins and family. James is 31 and wife is 32.
Then on page 17 is Jeptha and his family. Jeptha is 35 and Nancy is 33. Both born in South Carolina.
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-9BS6-R16?i=12&cc=1473181
And on the following page 14 is a continuation of some Hutchins.
Often times the families stay in the same area, and as they grow up the children often stay in the same area. And marry people they have grown up with.
So Jeptha and Nancy were married in 1842 in South Carolina.
In the 1840 Census we can see on this search list a lot of Hutchins in South Carolina. No other names aside from the head of household.
So what I had to do with my Bruce folks was go through the 1840 Census for Bruises', write down the names and ages of the males and females. Sometimes I would have to print out the 1840 Census page where my name Bruce was found and really look and analyze the data. So boring. And I put the pages alongside one another to compare. I found that one family of Bruces were close page wise, to my family of Jenkins. That way I found them both.
Then go on to the 1850 Census and compare where they may have moved. Did another family move nearby from the 1840 Census, that may be Nancy's family?
I've gone over my searches for your Jeptha. I couldn't find a book. No one knows Nancy's last name. Google search brought up some people studying Jeptha. But there again, no one knows Nancy's last name.
You may make a breakthrough for Nancy. Post it and many accolades for you.
I did that for my Bruces' and Jenkins', and found a relative on FB and everything.
Good hunting.
Sincerely,
Anitra

Hi Anitra,
I apologize for the late response. I have done a lot of research on this couple but unfortunately have not found anything regarding Nancy/Honor the wife of Jeptha Hutchins. I have done page-by-page census searches, looked in probate and land records, looked for vital records, contacted some older relatives, newspapers, and even contacted the Anderson, South Carolina Genealogical Society for information but they gave me info I already had, and a few incorrect pieces of info as well.
I have made a second appointment with a research specialist to do a viral research strategy session tomorrow. If they can't help, I'm wondering if I might have to hire a specialist from Anderson, SC or from Forsyth, Georgia.
Thanks for reaching out!

Thank you for replying Angeline,
I've been in the same situation, several years ago.
After doing all I could, I waited until some source was indexed. Then finally I got some information. But that was back in the day.
I hope the specialist helps.
Good searching,
Anitra
Let me know if you need anything.
