Where can I get/see documentation on my ancestor
I would like to know the best way to gather documentation on ancestors born in the early to mid 17 hundred's. I have a couple that shows them to be born in a county that, at the time of their births, did not yet exist. (for example: My potential 5th Grt grandpa, John Bailey LZJ3-YPN, is showing to have been born in Albemarle County Virginia in 1740. Virginia had not formed Albemarle until 1744.) To potentially make things more confusing, Virginia was still a British Colony then. So, I guess my real question is, Do I pursue getting documentation from the County listed as birthplace, the county in which my family most likely lived at the time of birth (probably Goochland County), or-and I am always up for an excuse to go somewhere, should I look at England for the records. Also, if they still exist, can I find them online, seeing as COVID-19 is still wreaking havoc? Thank you and Kind regards

There are a couple of places you can find information on early Virginia. If you click on the help feature, the question mark inside of a circle, on the FamilySearch page and put in United States Research: Mid-South Region and then scroll down to Virginia, there will be some help there. Also if you click on groups in the Community, and type in Virginia, there are lots of tips for researching Virginia records.

There is a resource book on the second and the third floor of the Library call “Red Book” that list’s counties and state histories by years from British colonies to the present. Great help. Maybe online. It traces the colonies counties back to the 1600’s.
