How to identify parents for John Elias Peterson (MTV6-DRZ -abt 1790-1850s) and his wife Delila Wilso
- According to their son Elias' J. Peterson's (1824 -1907) baptism, John Elias Peterson was from Connecticut. The other sons, Thomas and George Peterson's censuses say John was born there. I have found no proof of his birth, nor immigration records, nor census in CT.
- In 1820 and 1840, John P shows up on the Baltimore Co District 2 censuses.
- I did find a Probate record for a John Peterson who died Dec 2, 1851 but the papers that would show any descendant can only be accessed in person in the MD archives, not online. I live in WA state.
- 1850 Delila and their son George show up still in District 2 Balto county census. In 1860, Delila is in District 3 of Harford County with George and her son Elias is on the same census as well. Then Delila disappears.
- I haven't found death records on either of these 2 GGPs and I have looked at all the papers and online records I can due to Covid limitations.
- I've tried the cousins, however it appears so far I am a bit ahead of them in progress. I've tried researching records of family around them but run into the same issues due to unavailability of records during that period in Maryland.
Any ideas on how I can identify their parents, where they were born and where they died? This is a serious brick wall for me. Thank you very much!

Is there anyone in Maryland who can help Laurie with accessing the archives? Laurie; John Peterson is such a common name that any search would take considerable time and right now the state archives are closed due to COVID. We all hit brick walls in our research. Often we just need to give it more time for more resources to become available and move on to something else.

Thank you, Dik. I appreciate your comments. Our area has been closed since March due to Covid and I must admit, where I am stuck seems to be in the before 1850 time period. I suppose by the time our Family History Library opens here in Washington, it will be a year. Any help, even the smallest is greatly appreciated! LPV

Have you checked the sources in the wiki: https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Maryland,_United_States_Genealogy
Check each county, records can differ, and also the "record types" on the right of the page. Early Maryland is lacking vital records but the State archives have a lot of information online. I have had luck using land records: https://mdlandrec.net/main/ You need to create an account. sign in and pick a county then use active indices, then on "Series" the grantor and grantee indices. Deeds can contain a lot of family information. Also check the probate section on the wiki.
