I am following a lead that Catherine Bambeck Murr might be a sibling of John Bambeck, born 1814 in Ober-Rodenbach, Kreis Hanau (Hessia) Germany.

Just checking to see if this is the correct film number.

John arrived in 1836 in (Bremen to Baltimore) Baltimore and made his home in Ohio. Catherine lived in New York City. So far records for Catherine have been sparse. Thank you for any direction.

The evangelical parish for Oberrodenbach is Niederrodenbach. These records are not available on FamilySearch, but they can be accessed on the subscription website www.archion.de . I just checked the baptism register index for the volume covering 1748 to 1830, and the surname Bambeck was not listed. Could the family have been Catholic?

According to www.meyersgaz.org the Catholic parish for Oberrodenbach is Gross-Krotzenburg. I also saw a reference to the surname Bambeck [Catholic family] in Klein-Krotzenburg. The Klein-Krotzenburg Catholic parish registers are available on FamilySearch . See DGS 007991176 . The index show a Catharina Bambeck born in 1817 [see image 357. The actual record is on image 466. Catharina was born 20 Oct 1817, father Johann Adam Bambeck, mother Catharina Diesser. BUt a note in the margin says that this Catherine died in 1819. Perhaps they had another child by that name lateron. There are a couple of Bambeck families in this register.

Thank you so much for this help. Yes. It appears that this family was Catholic; John was involved with the building of a German Catholic church in his adopted hometown of Lawrence Township, Ohio. I am glad I asked about the film; I still struggle with German research and I don't seem to choose the right films. We know we have a DNA connection to this family, but creating the paper trail continues to be a challenge.

Thank you, again. Your help is very much appreciated.
