How do I find the ship manifests leaving the USA?

Does anyone know where I can look to find the passengers of ships traveling back to where someone came from? That would help me a lot. I can’t seem to find some ancestors that were in Chicago then disappeared after 1927.

I am "Tagging" this (General) 'Question' of yours, in this "Community.FamilySearch" Forum, to the 'Group' being "United States Genealogy Research", in the Forum; so that, the members of that group can answer/assist you.

Answering the question the other way round, if your ancestors went back via the UK, then there is a collection on Ancestry for "UK and Ireland, Incoming Passenger Lists, 1878-1960". It might help, depending on their routing.
