On Thursday, 1 November at 1 p.m. Mountain Time, FamilySearch is offering a free webinar on how to use the Hamburg Passenger Lists. This is a great resource to find the origin of ancestors who emigrated thought Hamburg.
For more information, see this site:
https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Family_History_Library_Classes_and_Webinars
Scroll down to "Upcoming Webinars" and then 'European Research Webinars." Click 'Open' and you will see the link to join the webinar and the handouts.
There will be some in-class activities, so please download the handouts before class. Also, in order to do the in-class activities, you will need access to Ancestry.com, so please log-in to your account before class. If you do not have an account, you can access Ancestry.com at your local Family History Center. See this link to find your nearest FHC: https://www.familysearch.org/ask/help
Of course, you can view and listen to the webinar without doing the activities. You will still learn a lot.
You might ask why using the Hamburg Passenger Lists would be important for people who have Nordic ancestors. Some Scandinavians, especially Danes, emigrated through Hamburg!
We hope to see you there!

Fritz, is this webinar taped and available? I would like to pass it on to a couple of FB groups if it is. Thanks! Jill

HI Jill, good to hear from you, as always. Here's the deal. We used to record our webinars and then post them online, in our learning center. We were not happy with the results because of poor sound or interruptions or other things. And, the webinars were just too long, esp with all the problems. So, earlier this year, we started having the presenters record their presentations BEFORE they gave the webinar. So, we had very little editing and could make sure we had a high-quality recording--and, they we shorter because we did not have various interruptions. We also could post the recording online right after the webinar. In this case, however, our recorder has been out of town and will not be back till late this week. So, it will be recorded later this week or early next week and then it will go up. so, say two weeks. Keep your eyes peeled. I'll also let you know when it gets posted. Long answer to a short question, huh? But, at least you know the back-story.
Fritz
