I have looked thru everything FamilySearch has.
So now I need help. My grandfather Fred Ashford became a ward of a family, because his father (John Ashford) and mother (Hannah Goldstein) died at the same time in St. Louis, Missouri.
Sometime between 1879-1890. I have looked in wills, newspaper, court, census. I have hit a bad brick wall. I can not fine Fred till marriage 1942 and nothing on father and mother. help please

If you could provide me with more information, such as birth or death dates and places of anyone you know, along with the marriage information on Fred I will see if I can help.

My preliminary research leads me to the following tree on Ancestry.com. It has some additional information. Hope it helps. I have more places to look later.

A real long-shot is the Orphan Trains. Orphans were Orphans. Trains stopped in St. Louis. Perhaps they picked up as well as dropped off.

Have you considered Winston A. Ashford, ID L26L-6DP as the father of Fred? He is also listed in multiple trees in Ancestry.

Do you know the family's religion? If you can find the parent's marriage record at a church, you could then check that same church for a baptism record for Fred.
Also, if they happen to be catholic and German, you could make an appointment at the St. Vincent Home (for Children) in North St. Louis to check their orphanage records. It was an orphanage for German Catholic families in St. Louis that started in the mid-1800s. They have not digitized/shared their archives/records, but I went there and found my orphan ancestor in their books from 1864.

I have found the marriage of Fred and Anna, that is how I found his parents. Then nothing dead. I'm house bound so everything must come by the internet.
