For demonstration purposes, I would like to create a dummy account in beta and then add people to that new tree in beta. If I create an account starting from the Beta site, will that be a real account or will it be discarded eventually (my hope)?

I don't think that is necessary. You just go to the Beta site and login with your normal account.

Note that if you want to compare the beta site with the normal site, you must use different browsers. Even if you try to sign in to both sites from different windows in the same browser it will not allow you to be logged into both at the same time.

But I don't want to be logged in as myself because I already have a full tree. I want to be able to demonstrate to others how someone starting with a new account would get started and how they would eventually connect to their first deceased ancestor. So, I need a new account.

    @Cole Reese

    .

    FYI

    .

    'Jeff' is correct, 'spot on'.

    .

    But ...

    That said ...

    .

    I understand your requirement/situation ...

    .

Short Answer: You can; but, it will NOT be as a Member of the Church.

    .

Your Church Membership number can ONLY be associated with ONE "Account".

    .

And, further to the "Dummy" Account NOT being that as a Member of the Church, the OTHER 'Downside' is that the "Dummy" Account WILL "Exist" in, both, (1) the "Production" (ie. "Live") Environment; and, (2) the "Beta' (ie. "Test") Environment.

    .

And, another point is that to "Create" a "Dummy" Account it is best to use a VALID "E-mail" Address, that is DIFFERENT to YOUR existing "Email" Address.

    .

Many years ago, I created another "Account" for "Testing" and "Training" purposes; as, a non-member of the Church, well before we had the option in our "Settings" to NOT "Display" the "[ Show ] Temple Information".

    .

That non-member "Account" of mine is still active; and, I still use it sometimes in the "Beta' (ie. "Test") Environment.

    .

    As an aside ...

    .

Of course, another option available to you, is to use one of the "Students" you are teaching, who has NOT used "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch" (ie. DOES NOT yet have a "Pedigree" - any one other than themselves) .

    .

    I hope this helps.

    .

    Brett

Since the Beta is a totally different database from the normal one, you could go in and delete records or relationships that you have already put in there that were copied over to the Beta during an update. Destroying data in the Beta doesn't affect the production database. You can scramble it and unhook as many relationships as you want.
