Elder Samuel T. Bingman was born February 7, 1855 in Laclede county, Missouri. He was converted at the age of 20 years and later united in marriage with the Missionary Baptist church of which he was a faithful member until the day of his death. Having been called of the Lord to carry the gospel message to the world, he was, on the 10th day of March, 1888, ordained to the work of the ministry.
Most of his preaching and pastoral work was done in Oklahoma, Texas and Missouri.
He was married in 1878 to Miss Manda Casebolt. To this union were born two children: Mrs. Cora Welcher of Stroud, Okla., and Mrs. Adabelle Durnell of Fort Worth, Texas. His wife died and in 1889 he was married to Miss Maggie Lawson. To this union were born two children: Mrs. Ethel Sadberry of Portales, N. M., with whom he was making his home, and Mrs. Mae Loeffelholz of Los Angeles, California.
This companion also died and in 1894 he married Mrs. Nannie Lawson. To this union was born one son: Mr. Fred Bingman, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Elder S. T. Bingman died August 12, 1929, at the age of 74 years, 6 months about 7 days. The funeral service was held at the Baptist church at Portales, the pastor, Bro. Grizzle, preaching the funeral sermon, after which the service was turned over to the I. O. O. F. lodge. Mr. Bingman had been a member of the I. O. O. F. lodge for about 25 years.
He came to Farwell,, Texas, and from there to Portales, New Mexico, with his daughter, Mrs. Hugh Sadberry and family in November, 1928, from Oklahoma and though he was for from his old home and friends, and with only one of his children, present at the time of his death, yet the kindness and assistance shown to himself and the family by their new found friends and brother lodge members, could not have been better. His body was laid to rest in the Portales cemetery. The floral offering made by the I. O. O. F. and Rebekah lodges and other friends was very lovely and surely appreciated by his family.
Besides his five children he is survived by twenty-four grandchildren, 11 great grand children, 3 brothers and 5 sisters. Also one step-daughter, Mrs. Paul Wagoner of Oklahoma City, Okla., and her six children, and a great number of other relatives and friends. Mr. Ed J. Neer, undertaker, had charge of the body.
