Where do I add obituaries?

I've been submitting obits directly as a source, since their are usually lots of applicable "tags" (name, sex, birth, death, burial). The easiest tool I've found to expedite this, is the "RecordSeek.com" chrome extension.
Then if there's a good photo on it, I'll extract the photo from the obit (right click, save image as...) & submit that photo separately as a memory.

You can pretty much post whatever you wish to FS Memories
that are related to the person in question.
The nice thing about posting memories - is it leaves YOU in control of the submission.
but things like Family Bible, Family History books, census records - could also be added as as source.
I think its great that FS has a place to add sources.
but much of what I submit - I submit as a memory- no matter what it is.
I have submitted a large number of obituaries to FS Memories.

I wouldnt be surprised if literally millions of obituaries have been uploaded to FS memories
if you go to the FIND option in Memories
and do a search like "+Yancey +Obituary" you can find obituaries for the Yancey surname. simply change Yancey to your surname of interest and you can literally find thousands of obituaries for that surname.

Thank you so much for this information. I just wanted to be certain that I was not doing anything wrong, or something that would make it harder for someone else to find.

if I wanted to do a query against sources that have been entered into FS
of a particular nature - - Obituaries for surname X as an example.
how would I do it?
If I want to group a similar set of sources (family bibles etc,)
how do I do it?

also on a related note - is there a way to classify a Memories item as a source itself.
i.e. a source that is pointing at a Memories item?
could one upload an obituary to memories and then create a source entry that points at that obituary in memories?

Why not do both?

yes - to both
but personally if I had to choose one - I would choose Memories.

If it is in your memories, you can create a formal source from it that can be attached anywhere.

so it wouldn't really be much different than how you create any other source - right?
or would it be?

When you do an "Add Source" for a sources list, or if you do a "Create New Source" in your sources box, both operations give you the ability to use a memory as part of that source citation. Note that the mechanism is slightly different depending on which of those locations you do it from, but the end result (i.e., a citation to a memories based source) is the same--a source that can be attached to the source list of one or more person records.

Right. Click "Add Source" under the person's Sources tab, then choose "Add New Memory Source". Then under "Web Page" choose "Select from Gallery". It will fill in the title, from the title of that memory item. Fill in the rest by hand.

Thank you for the information. I just wanted to be sure that I was doing it the correct way and not going against the "rules." I do not want to make it harder for people after me to the find the information.
