With typed records like this one it is more difficult to determine how to handle the cases where there is not a name in the Grantee column and no numbers in the Liber and Page columns because the curly bracket that was used in handwritten records to group lines is seldom used in the type written ones.

The next best thing to do to determine how they should be grouped is to look at the surname of the grantees, when the surnames are the same it generally indicates that they go together.

So for your batch the grantor, book and page for Mary Madden will be:

    Eliza Robey 54 142

And the year for John Madden will be 1834.

Here are the rules that I use for these types of records:

    • When the date column is empty, use the date that was last entered until a new one is encountered.
    • When the Grantor, Liber and Page columns are all empty use the first ones that follow the line without them.
    • When only the Liber column is empty, use the last one entered until a new one is encountered.
