On at least 4 occasions, I have been working on a project and it disappears. Most recently a New Jersey Death Record Index. Where do they go and could Family Search provide an explanation at the time?

You're right slotbuddy. We need to fix this. I know how frustrating this must be and I apologize. We have such a long list of little things on the list, it's hard to fit them all into the gaps in the big things we are working on. Feedback helps us to know what's causing the most frustration.

We had a rash of these instances earlier in the year due to bugs in the new system and we cleaned up a whole bunch of the things causing this situation. Thinking the frequency of this happening would go way down, I lowered the priority, but perhaps that was a mistake.

I'll take a look at moving this back on the radar and increase the priority. I agree it's the right thing to do. Thanks for speaking up.

I think this is a question for @Indexing Chat

What do you mean when you say the project disappears?

@Richard Andrew Peterson Are you indexing or are you researching a record that is already published online? This will help us understand which group can best answer your question. Thank you

I'm assuming that Richard means exactly what he says because the same thing has happened to me. You start working on a project and are indexing or reviewing it, you do a few batches and even mark it as a favorite so you can easily find it, when suddenly it is gone. It isn't like the batch has been on for a while and is completed. It just is nowhere to be found and it happens with no explanation. The latest one that it happened with is the New Jersey Death Record index and that may be why he mentioned it.

The least Family Search could do is to say the project is no longer available or give some kind of explanation so you don't feel like you have done something wrong.

I have asked the same question before.Their answers were:

    1. When there is an error in the Project Instructions or the Field Help and the Project Managers need to make corrections, they will pull the project to make those corrections, which include all batches. They do not give warnings or even let us know on our end. This may have been what happened to your batch.
    2. Sometimes batches are pulled because the engineers need to rework some problems with the batches.   They have to remove the batches from the public in order to do this.  This happens to every batch that is being worked on.    Towards the end of the project, right before publication, sometimes the batches are pulled so that they may be finished up quickly, in order to meet the indexing contract deadline.   It is done because it is necessary.

This is copied and pasted directly from their answers to me. As frustrating as it is, I just move on to another project. Hope this helps.😯

Agree with you and I do the same thing, but I still think it is a rather rude way to treat people that are volunteering their services. It doesn't take much to post an appropriate response to cover these situations. It doesn't have to be anything detailed, just a few words that popped up and said it was no longer available would be fine.

I was just trying to make certain that I understood what he was asking about so that I would not answer a question that he did not ask. I could think of two circumstances that his brief question might be asking about.

Yes it would be nice to have a notification that a project was being pulled to be worked on, but I am curious how you would have the notification made?

Putting it out in a general message seems like overkill, the people who were not working on it would lilely not care to be notified about it.

Putting a notice in the find batches list would require a major modification to that tool. FamilySearch Support already has a plateful of much more urgent enhancements to work on.

Sending messages to all the people who are working on the project would also take time that can be better spent enhancing the tool.

Understanding how the process works is sufficient for me to know that when a partially complete project that I have been working on disappears it is not because I have done something that caused it to disappear.

Just to follow-up, I went and found this item in our backlog and upped the priority so we'll get to it in the next month or so.

I am indexing a project and there are plenty of batches left. Then, on these occasions, when I have returned to continue indexing, the whole project is gone.
