Trying to find information on my great aunt.

Amelia/Emilie R Kraus

BIRTH ABT 1898 • Bohemia/Ch Republic/Austria

Immigrated 1913 w/mother and siblings

DEATH USA ?

Last identified on the the 1920 United States Federal Census. Age 22 and single. They lived in rural Alice, ND. She has the same first name as her mother who was born Amelia/Emilie M Frodel and married to Edward Adolf Kraus. Both Parents are buried in Alice ND. I believe she may have run the tavern in Alice, ND as I remember stories about my grandfather and father moving alcohol for her, which my grandmother disapproved of.

She may have married a man with the last name Wavra, but have not seen identifying proof this citation is her. I remember meeting her when I was young at my grandparents home in Moorhead, MN and her being "old", so she did not pass away in her 30's or 40's. If she lived in the surrounding area we probably would have meet here more than once, which leads me to believe she did not live in ND or MN and that it was special that she was there.

I am hoping that someone out there might know something or at least be able to direct me to someplace other than the regular sites to help me find her.

X24mom, Yes I believe this is her! Thank you so much for the help . I did not know NDSU had a site that would be helpful. I will have to do more digging on there, I am sure I can find tons of family info there. I was at the cemetery where she is buried to find her parents and probably walked right past her not knowing her married names. She was the last of my grandfathers siblings I had no information on.

Thanks again, it means a lot to have people willing to help.😃

If you know any good sites that might help me find information on her mother, Amelia/Emilie M Frodel that would be helpful. She was born in Austria/Bohemia/Cz area. I have info of her emigrating here in 1913, but cannot find anything before coming here. I am sure that the spelling of the last name has most likely been changed a bit. I have tried multiple spelling, but haven't had any luck. A lot of records were probably destroyed during WWII. The Kraus and Popper families had lived in the areas around Vienna.

She was born in Mickelsdorf, Austria abt. 1873 d.8/7/42 in Alice ND, USA

    Married Edward Adolf Kraus b.1877 m. 1898 d.1939

Son of Josef Aaron Kraus 1848-1917 and Kamilla Popper 1854-1929

Let me know if you have any ideas. Thanks again X24mom

Is that her probate record on the list above? Aug 1942? Emilia Kraus? What info are you looking for? US? Austria? Have you had a chance to read her will/probate info? Lots of times list other family members/close friends. If you have a photo of her immigration info can you please share either here or in private message? Lots of times the original papers will have many clues that a lot people overlook initially. I’ll see what I can find :)

@Christine M Rerick this marriage record is for her son Earnest, it has some great info about former spouses etc... it shows her name is spelled as Amelia Frodel born in Germany so maybe your spelling is correct 😊 https://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?dbid=61478&h=1200194412&indiv=try&o_vc=Record:OtherRecord&rhSource=60901

I have this piece already attached to Earnest. I am looking for records in Austria more than anything. I know the ship she and her children came on from using the Ellis Island site. Her husband was already here (USA). I am more interested in her marriage, birth and her parents info all would have happened in Austria.

I have not been able to look at the probate info you sent earlier (grandkids were over, so no time to sit and look) With both the mother and daughter using the same/similar name it can be a little hard to figure out what is what, but have completely come up dry using the "Frodel" name in the searches I have used.

I haven’t had much luck either using “Frodel” ... found records for most of the rest of the family in the U. S. But haven’t found much for her at all :/ will let you know if I find anything 😊
