Do you mean "Canada"?
Or, do you mean "England"?

If, in "England"; then, "Civil Registration" was around in 1852; so, what are the "Names" involved?

Brett, That's a very good question that I had myself. I discovered his birthplace on a census record. So I googled "Canada Eng". This is what I found: Depending on the time period the terms can be different, also the boundries may vary slightly BUT generally:
CAN ENG = CAN WEST = Upper Canada =Ontario
CAN FR = CAN EAST = Lower Canada = Quebec
