I need help finding information from church records / registries in Norway

Am trying to find my GGGM’s parents ~ she was born in Lillehammer in 1885.

Any directions on how to locate these records would be amazing and greatly appreciated.

I am familiar with doing research in Norway. Most of my ancestors lived there. My grandmother’s mother was from the Lillehammer area. If you share the name and their ID number under their name, people on this group can steer you in the right direction on where to look.

Since she was born in 1885, it should be easy to find her in the 1891 census as long as that part of the census has been transcribed. Keep in mind that the surname used for her will be her patronymic combining her father's first name with the suffix -datter. Also, if a record in the US says she was born in Lillehammer, that might have been the village but more likely was the parish which covers a much larger area. Also, birth years in the census can be off a bit.

Here is a link to the census:

    https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/census/search/1891

Set up your initial search by limiting the area to Lillehammer municipality which covers the same area of the parish. Click on Geography, then Oppland, then Lillehammer like this:

All the parish registers for Lillehammer parish are here:

    https://media.digitalarkivet.no/en/kb/browse?parishes[]=0501S1&start_year=&end_year=&text=

These only go back to 1837. I haven't worked any in this area, but looking at a historical reference I have, it appears that prior to 1837 the entire area was just Fåberg parish.

    The Fåberg registers are here:

    https://media.digitalarkivet.no/kb/browse?clerical_parishes[]=0524P&start_year=&end_year=&text=

In your research, you will need to build a strong connection between what you know about your GGGM and anyone you find of the same name in the census or birth records. Sufficient information to prove you have the same person. Do you have a marriage record for her that shows her father's name?

Don't forget the historical records databases at FamilySearch. It does appear Lillehammer was included in the indexing program. Doing this search for Lillehammer 1880 to 1890:

    https://www.familysearch.org/search/record/results?q.birthLikePlace=lillehammer&q.birthLikePlace.exact=on&q.birthLikeDate.from=1880&q.birthLikeDate.to=1890&f.collectionId=1467014&m.defaultFacets=on&m.queryRequireDefault=on&m.facetNestCollectionInCategory=on&count=20&offset=0

    gives 1,934 results.
