Searching for where my father was born and running into problems.

My father, Walter Harold Stricklin, LDVM-YSF, was born 26 Aug 1920 on "Anderson Farm," 2.5 miles Northeast of Detroit, Red River County, Texas, along the road to Midway Community in Justice Precinct 4. He was the youngest of three boys, having an older brother James Ray, 2 years old, and their oldest brother, Ralph Leo, 4 years old. Their parents, Walter Davis Stricklin and Maude Beatrice Stricklin nee Patterson, were believed to be itinerant farmers at that time.

My Dad was born too late in the year to appear in the 1920 census, but I'd like to find my grandparents and uncles there because it would firm up the census links in my tree and give me valuable information on where, exactly, they were are the time of my Dad's birth.

ANY insight as to finding that record, any information about where they were, any information about an "Anderson Farm" or what they actually did there is greatly appreciated.

Hi @Charles Stricklin it might not be of any use, as you've likely already seen this record, but I thought it was interesting to note that Walter's parents are listed as residing in different places on his birth certificate. He near Detroit, TX and she near Montgomery. Interesting also that the place of birth is listed as Detroit, if the mother was residing in Montgomery. Also that the birth was registered before Walter received his given name. It's not much, but it may be a clue.

I also have a vague memory of, some months ago, a discussion about how some individuals had been missed in indexing US census records. I can't remember the details to know if it's relevant to this case (if any one does recall, please chime in!). BUT if you're having trouble locating the family in 1920, it might be worth manually looking through the census pages for the areas you believe they might have been. It's a tedious task, but if you're at a dead end, it might be worth it.
