Is it possible to move a person to a new household on a different page of the census?

There are some census records that are not in order. When they were indexed and the family was on more than one page, people that were not a part of the previous image page family were incorrectly included. Is it possible to move them into their correct household on a previous page?

For example Ida Hulin (Image 54 = https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33SQ-GRX9-NN?view=index&cc=1488411&lang=en) should be in the family of Julien Hulin (Image 52 = https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33SQ-GRX9-FB?view=index&cc=1488411&lang=en). I moved her out of her original household but now she is in her own household.

@Jody Ann David Blackhttps://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/to-fix-household-groupings-in-united-states-census-records-try-the-drag-names-option I think this will help. It explains how to move people to a different household on the record using the Drag Names option.

Thank you @SamuelBWillson but this article doesn’t address the issue of families that are on two different pages of the census. I have already moved them out of the wrong family group into their own group but that still leaves them out of their correct family group.

@SamuelBWillson the point is that this household is split into two separate Historical Records. The real question here is, do the Record demarcation rules allow the linking of two Images to one Record? (Even just for Censuses.) Anyone know? I will have a poke around later to see if I can find any examples or other evidence, but I am not optimistic. Deleting and adding index information manually would probably work, but feels a bit violent/has the potential to confuse other users (remembering the key principle of 'indexing what you see on the image [and only that]').

You can also report it as a records issue and have someone fix it:

You can get directly to this link - it is at the top of the Search category.

I have found some sensible examples of census Historical Records (i.e. households) spanning multiple images - still trying to get to the bottom of exactly how this hangs together, will update this when I have a firm picture (at which point we can perhaps work out how to represent such a scenario via manual indexing).

    EDIT:

Here's an example (Lewis Seigul) where the record spans multiple images: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QKQH-5231?lang=en

If you click through into the image (523) and then hit NAMES, the list at the right hand side shows that the Maud Vilmont household containing Lewis spans images 523 and 520:

However, I have been unable to find any way of creating a household with this sort of image spanning via manual indexing, which is what the OP would need, I think - mods, can you help, please? (will flag this comment)

    Thanks.

Here's how I would do it:

    1. Select the head of the household (in this case, Julien Hulin on Image 52).
    2. Click the pencil icon next to Relationships.
    3. Click "+ ADD MORE INFORMATION."
    4. Under "Most Common Relationships," click "Child."
    5. Click "UPDATE" at the bottom.
    6. Back at the top of the "Relationship" page, click "Help with Relationships," then click "OPEN SPLIT-SCREEN MODE."
    7. In the new gallery of images that appears on the left, click on the image with the daughter (in this case, Image 54).
    8. Back on the right, click in the empty field of the new "Child" you just added.
    9. Scroll down the list. You will see horizontal lines separating the list of names in other images. About halfway down the scroll list, you will see a horizontal line with the text "NAMES ON SPLIT SCREEN (PAGE 54)." Ida Hulin is at the top of that portion of the list. Click on her name.
    10. A dialog box will come up asking you to verify the new relationship. Click "NEXT," then "APPROVE."
    11. Click "SAVE."
    12. You will now see the text "Others mentioned in this record" associated with the Julien Hulin household, and expanding that section will show Ida Hulin.
    13. Optional: You can then click on each individual member of the household (other than the "Head"), click on the pencil icon next to "Essential Information," change the "Primary Name" radio buttons to "No," and click "SAVE" (this will allow you to see the relationship to the Head on the list of names).

I went ahead and did all of these steps for this household as I was typing these instructions, so that is already done. But the same concept applies to other cases where households are split between multiple pages.

I see there is FamilySearch help article on this, as well.

If you need to create a new household before combining individuals from multiple pages:

    1. From a main census page, click on "MANAGE INDEXES," then "Edit Households."
    2. If there is more than one individual on that page in the household, click on "Move multiple names." In the case of the Vilmont's and Lewis Seigul, I selected Victor H Vilmont (after correcting the name), Maud Vilmont, Morris Vilmont, Bernice Vilmont, Manor Vilmont, and Lewis Seigul.
    3. Hold a left-click on one of the selected names and drag up and drop over the "+ New Record Group" box (sometimes this is a blind step—you can't see the names being dragged).
    4. In the "Record Types" box, select "Census" and click "SAVE."
    5. You may have to click "REMOVE RELATIONSHIPS," then re-create the relationships later.

I did this for this household, but I don't know Lewis Seigul's relationship to the Vilmont's, or if there are any other members of this household that need to be added. That can be done independently now.

Note: It appears that "Manor Vilmont" (male/son) on the census may actually be Marjorie Vilmont (female/daughter), but I left that alone.

I addressed this in my post above.
