Bug: 1870 U. S. Census does not appear in Collection list for search results
Today, a search for "Rebecca" in Virginia, West Virginia, or the United States does not include the 1870 U.S. Census in the Collection list.

…but the search results do include records from the 1870 census. I wish to filter for only these.

You can start your search from the collection: https://www.familysearch.org/en/search/collection/1438024

Or, you can search for Rebecca, marking both the Residence Place and Residence Year as Exact.

That is the exact result I did on this one, identical to yours. The key is to add necessary information to winnow down to find them

@Anne986 I'm sure this is happening because the search for "Rebecca"is so common that it matches more than 100 collections. It's generally helpful to avoid such a broad search by providing at least one more criterion or filter; if you do, you'll probably have matches in fewer than 100 collections. Then the 1870 Census will appear in the list.

@Alan E. Brown While I agree that adding more info is usually helpful, I think Anne986's comment points to a new problem. See this thread, please.

Thank you, all, for your suggestions to limit the search results by either searching the 1870 census directly or by limiting the search results with the Residence filter.
To address the possible issue of too many collections in the search results, here is another more limited search example,
The "All Censuses & Lists Collections" list still does not include the 1870 census. But 1870 census records do appear in the Search results (on page 2).
If I limit the search results to Residence Year: 1870-1870,
The "All Censuses & Lists Collections" list does include the 1870 census.
I search all the time using the collection filter and it usually shows the 1870 census in the list, without needing to specify the residence date. So this, to me, still appears to be a bug.

@Anne986 "If it looks like a bug, quacks like a bug, swims like a bug, then it probably is a bug". Leaving aside the discussion of searching, if you do the following, you will be surprised at what you see and what you don't see. I'm not an expert on US censuses or US history, but I was surprised. Click these:
- Search
- Records
- BROWSE ALL COLLECTIONS
- In the filter, Censuses & Lists
- United States of America
- All United States of America. At that point, all the states' names are checked.
Spoiler alert: There are 5 pages of results in alphabetical order, starting with some Denmark and Iceland censuses, one from Illinois, one from Indiana, some from Italy, Norway, Peru, Puerto Rico, United Kingdom, and finally about 20 collections from the United States. These last include most 10-yearly federal censuses from 1800 to 1950, but do not include 1830, 1870 or 1890. There are no other state censuses lists included.
Here is a link that will achieve this display.
This behaviour echoes my experience in the other discussion that @Áine.ní.Donnghaile referenced earlier today.

@julianbrown38, Thank you very much for your comment about the Collection List. It would seem reasonable that the same Collection List is used for both browsing collections and to power the Collection filter in records search. That they both do not included the 1870 and 1830 U.S. Censuses is telling. Let's hope this gets addressed. Anne

@Anne986 @JulianBrown38 @Áine.ní.Donnghaile This issue has been submitted for further review.

Maybe this is progress. For the search mentioned above,
the 1870 census is still not listed in the "Census & Lists" collection section but is listed in the "Other" collection section.

Thanks Anne896 - Hope this gets fixed soon.
