Could a means of providing feedback to volunteer indexers be made available?
Against certain indexed records this option is available and I understand such messages do get passed to the individual in question, which must be quite pleasing for them in knowing their work has been appreciated
It does seem a shame that it is just the text shown under "Message" that goes through to them, however - i.e., no opportunity for me (us) to expand on the set comment, or even offer some constructive criticism!
In this example, I would have liked to have had the opportunity to politely advise that the record should not have included her spouse's surname when indexed - especially as the name (as illustrated below - wrong spelling as well: was HORSLEY, not as shown!) was not shown as such in the register entry.
I have had a number of other items where errors have been made (usually involving wrong dates), so am disappointed I can only offer that one response. I would never send a rude response, but perhaps therein lies the problem: other users might just do exactly that and cause upset to a well-meaning volunteer!
(The marriage entry in the original register shows the bride as Mary Horsley, not as how it has been transcribed)
