Trying to find Thomas Hogan (1805-1870) father.
I have documents about family tradition and my family tree that state Thomas Hogan came from Ireland, but there’s real historical documents like Censuses that say he was born in Mcdowell county NC. I need help finding his father or mother to find out what the truth is. Here’s all the info I have about Thomas:
Thomas Hogan, born ~1805 North Carolina. Dead -1870 likely NC
Married Elizabeth Humphrey/Humphery in Burke County on March 5, 1828.
Appears in McDowell County in 1850, age 45, with wife Elizabeth and children Jane, Rebecca, William, Mary, and Elizabeth.
I’m trying to identify his parents. John Hogan and Susanna Bradshaw have been proposed as possible parents, but I have not found primary evidence proving the connection.
Burke County records suffered major destruction in 1865. I’ve searched the available censuses and online databases without finding Thomas’s parents.
There is a William Hogan (1842) Burke County estate file that may be relevant, but I have not established that this William was Thomas’s brother.
I’m looking for someone familiar with Burke/McDowell County records who can help identify Thomas’s parents.

According to information I located on Ancestry.com, the ancestors of Thomas Hogan (at least on the paternal side) originally emigrated from the Netherlands, not Ireland. This makes sense because their original last name was van den Hoogen, which is Dutch. It morphed into Hogan at some point during the 1700s while they were living in the colony of Virginia, which is where your ancestors first immigrated to before relocating to North Carolina. I have listed out the lineage down below.
Thomas was born in July 1805 in McDowell County, North Carolina. He married Elizabeth Humphrys on March 5, 1828 and they had 11 children: Emeline (1826), Sarah "Sally" (1827), Olive "Ollie" Elizabeth (1831), Jane Elizabeth (1832), Daniel Reid (1832), Thomas J. (1832), Rebecca Elizabeth (1833), William Cranton (1835), Mary Louise (1836), Elizabeth (1839), Louisa Ann (1841).
Thomas' parents were William Hogan (born 1780 in North Carolina) and Elizabeth Allen (birth date unknown). There is no death date listed for Elizabeth, but one could assume that she died during childbirth or from an illness when Thomas was young because William remarried a much younger woman in 1817 named Catharine "Catey" Reel (born 1799 in Lincoln, North Carolina) and they went on to have six children together between 1820 and 1838. Sadly, when William died, Catey was left to care for their youngest children alone (ages 4, 5, 9, and 13). Their older children were 18 and 22 at the time of his death.
