Pocahontas (and related) Duplicates

I seem to have a direct line back to Pocahontas and as I was diving into that today, I see that there are 2 profiles for Pocahontas- LKF1-HNG and LVNG-YRS (which is not like other ID numbers). It seems these need to be merged, but I don't want to mess anything up with these obviously well researched historical figures. Am I missing something here, or could someone at FS take a look? There are also 2 profiles for Jane Pierce (John Rolfe's other wife)- L5T1-JVH and GZ5S-RZR.

@ErinLausch Please do not attempt to merge those Pocahontas ID numbers LKF1-HNG and LVNG-YRS nor those of Jane Pierce, the wife of John Rolfe. There's a fascinating short Life History attached to these ID numbers written/compiled from the research of 50 different contributors with 59 Sources attached.

It is a fundamental goal of Family Tree to have one profile for each human who has lived on the earth. Having multiple profiles for a single individual creates pointless duplicate work, so we should always be working towards an accurate merge of those duplicate profiles.

@maryellenstevensbarnes1 raises a good point that there is useful information in the brief life histories of these profiles. Since only one can survive the merge, care should be taken to preserve the best information from those histories. But that's not a reason to avoid the merge, but simply a reason to be careful.

These two profiles have been merged before. I haven't looked closely enough to conclude how well they were merged, but someone recently decided to undo that merge by restoring the deleted profile. That's sad, since it is likely to lead to even more needless duplication of work. Instead, those who are passionate about this historical figure need to collaborate on producing one best profile.

@maryellenstevensbarnes1 I don't intend on trying to merge them but I think someone at FS should look into this and then lock the profile because @Alan E. Brown is right, duplicates just make a mess of things. Anyone know how to tag FS on here or a way to contact them with this request?

@ErinLauschI escalated this to the department that makes these kinds of decisions. They will review and assess merging and locking the profile.

Her and her husband's file have been changed so many time it is not funny. I think that FamilySearch should just lock it so it can't be changed.

@ErinLausch The research department has determined that merging her profiles must be done by the community. We understand that merging this historical person may be intimidating. Unfortunately, FamilySearch does not have the staff available to research these records and make determinations on merging them.

You may want to work with the WikiTree profile manager for Pocahontas to determine the best way to clean this up. This is her link on WikiTree https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Powhatan-3
