Hello! I have recently identified a potential duplicate profile which would be helpful for tracing my family history. The profiles in question are linked below (I believe this to be my great-great-great-great grandmother through my maternal line):

  • The first profile lists name as "Lucy Trumble" and the second as "Lucy Trumbley"
    • The second profile mentions "Trumble" as an alternative surname
  • Both profiles list New York as the place of birth
  • Antwin Gereau (LB3D-BGJ) (who I believe to be my gggg grandfather) is listed as the primary spouse in the first profile, and as a second, non-preferred spouse in the second profile
  • I traced my line through the first profile (through daughter Rosella Lucy Gereaux).
    • The children from this marriage are not consistent between the two profiles
  • A death in Illinois, as listed in the second profile, would make at least some sense, since that's where I (and my grandmother) are from
  • I discovered this potential connection through reviewing an old stab at tracing my family history through Ancestry

Could some kind soul provide some help for a new user of the website seeking to contribute? Should I attempt to merge the profiles in this instance or would that be inappropriate without further documentation? Any guidance would be much appreciated. Additionally, any general tips for identifying missing parentage, duplicate profiles, etc. would be helpful.

    https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:6XV1-7DZR?lang=en

    US census from 1950 showing

    Moses C Gerrue GMGW-P8T

    [Son of Lucy Trumbley L28N-Y35]

    living in Oregon with Brother

    Amabe Gereau GB19-DCC

    [Son of Lucy Trumble GD3N-CFY]

Connected source to the 2 brothers

So assuming all other connections are correct, found the consistent children between the two profiles for the merge.

General tips are try to fill in the children as much as possible with sources to help find parents, add married name to other alternative name for women, and click the links to findagrave to see recommended connections there BUT find a source that proves that recommended connection.

There are a lot of name spelling differences throughout the records so impressive work to get this far. The only concern is the age of the children is quite high for the birthyear of mother.
