Adding a Person/Name

Do I need to create a New Person with a new ID to add a child or spouse to someone else's tree? I have verifiable sources. Example Matilda Ashby MVPB-VB8 married to Joseph Gummery MN13-7MN. George Ashby was Matilda's 1st husband and Joseph Gummery was her 2nd. I can add info coming forward to approx 1940 on Matilda's daughter Sarah Gummery K86P-GVP and descendants including a living relation who is 80ish and has copies of original supporting documents not found by me on FS or Ancestry.

My only FS sources so far are 1841 & 1851 Census - the rest is personal knowledge/family records held by a living person— I will put a summary in Notes labeled Important Research — Is this the correct procedure to use?

@maryellenstevensbarnes1 have you considered scanning the document(s), if they don't refer to living people obvs, and using Memory Sources?

If the person doesn't exist at all in FT yet, then you would need to add a profile for them, yes.
