My question is, they are telling me there were two John Wadsworths who served during the Civil War from Wells, NY, Hamilton County, NY, who both served in Company K, 115th NY. He states one is 22 yrs old & other is 24 yrs old, he states Both were captured at Harper's Ferry and both exchanged, further states the 22 yr old was wounded at the battle of Olustee and discharged in 1865, the other 24 yrs old was listed as a deserter on June 3, 1863. I'm trying to find out which one is my family member and documentation to that effect.

Thanks to anyone that can help, I'm a senior and not good at this.

Nicholas

Can you please give us the URLs or links or screenshots of the records you are seeing for these two men? We need to see exactly what you are seeing.
Many of us here are seniors, too. Don't sell yourself short!

    Hi @Nicholas15483.

Find a Grave seems to have the John that was discharged linked here. Middle initial is A, and in 1861 he would've been about 22. He died in 1868.
Here is his profile on FamilySearch: https://www.familysearch.org/en/tree/person/details/LHTH-KBC

This seems to be the other John: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/78810592/john-hamilton-wadsworth

He answered "yes" for being a survivor of military service on the 1910 census. His middle name is Hamilton. In 1861, he would've been about 24. He died in 1925.

Here's John Hamilton Wadsworth's 1890 veterans' census (third entry) that says his disability was rheumatism: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939V-RS9T-85?view=index&personArk=%2Fark%3A%2F61903%2F1%3A1%3AK83D-85P&action=view&cc=1877095&lang=en

If this record is right, I think John Hamilton fought the desertion charge? I can't read a few of the words in the first line. This is just the index. There should be a copy of this letter with the National Archives: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-C3M6-VQPW-7?view=fullText&keywords=John+H+Wadsworth&lang=en

This is also his record with some descriptive data: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSX4-4QKT-9?view=fullText&keywords=John+H.+Wadsworth&lang=en
