Seeing a small trend in catalog place search problems.
Examples: (location) Perehińsko
Associated with this catalog page: Metrical books, 1835-1917 https://www.familysearch.org/en/search/catalog/koha:1315198
On catalog page, it gives this location path: Austria, Galizien, Rożniatów, Perehińsko. But if you use this as a catalog place search, there is no matching standardized location. If you just put in Perehińsko, and try various standardized locations, nothing seems to work.
Having a somewhat similar problem with Borzyszkowo, Bytow, Pomerania, Poland
Any ideas? Thank you.

I often use the Keyword search field as a workaround instead of the Place field. When the most recent update to the catalog was released, an alert displayed stating that some of the changes might impact searches for certain locations.
BTW - there is still a dedicated group for feedback on the updated catalog.

I am seeing more instances. Do you want us to report them to the link you provided?

Keyword is working for some of these, but not all. Thank you.

There is also a RootsTech video linked from the Feedback Group.1 -
@karenrasmussen Engineering is fully aware of these challenges and we're sorry for the frustration when searching by place name.
Without sharing specifics just yet, there are some meaningful changes on the horizon that should make a real difference. In the meantime, I'd recommend pointing patrons to keyword searching as a reliable workaround, and letting them know that improvements to place name searching are actively in development.

"Keyword is working for some of these, but not all."
A keyword search should find words on on the catalog film notes page. It would be good to report instances where the place name is clearly on the page but not being retrieved, so we can understand why. Thanks!

I am sorry for the frustration you are experiencing while using the place name search. The "Feedback" button on the left of the page is a good place to report this issue.

@Áine.ní.Donnghaile, @m how, @karenrasmussen This discussion piqued my curiosity so I asked Google AI about Perehińsko & found this: "The FS catalog allows for multiple valid historical standards depending on the era:
- For the 1835–1917 Era: The approved historical standard is Perehińsko, Dolina, Galicia, Austria (linked to its 19th-century Austrian district, Bezirk Dolina).
- For the 1919–1939 Era: The approved standard shifts to Perehińsko, Dolina, Stanisławów, Poland (reflecting its place in the Second Polish Republic).
I don't have the education or background to formulate a suggestion or feedback but I think it would help to have users enter Era or Time Period info when looking for a standardized place name for Perehińsko and other world locations. BTW, I'm just barely learning how to use all the Family Search & AI Assist avenues provided here.
