Documentary evidence for the surname evolution Hacquebecq→Haquebec→Aquebeque→Aqueveque in Chile?

I am researching the Chilean surname Aqueveque and would appreciate feedback from genealogists, surname researchers, and historians familiar with records from Chile and France.

During my research, I found records associated with Agustín Haquebec, a French immigrant born around 1710. The surname also appears to survive in France today in the form Hacquebecq.

In later Chilean records connected to the same family line, the surname appears as Aquebeque and eventually as Aqueveque.

Based on the records reviewed so far, the documented sequence appears to be:

Hacquebecq → Haquebec → Aquebeque → Aqueveque

At the same time, many websites and social media posts describe Aqueveque as a surname of Mapuche origin. However, despite extensive searching, I have not been able to locate primary historical records, colonial documentation, or linguistic studies supporting that explanation.

In contrast, the documentary evidence currently available appears to support a French-origin surname that underwent orthographic adaptation in colonial Chile. I would greatly appreciate feedback from researchers in both France and Chile regarding the following questions:

• Do these surname variants appear consistent with known historical spelling changes?

• Do the available records support treating Hacquebecq, Haquebec, Aquebeque, and Aqueveque as variants of the same family line?

• Are there French records documenting the surname Hacquebecq or related variants that could help establish a stronger connection?

• Are there any records, linguistic studies, or historical sources that support or contradict this interpretation?

Any comments, corrections, alternative explanations, or additional sources would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time and expertise.
