Include Merges in My Contributions
with the increasing number of duplicate profiles, does anyone believe that Family Tree should include the number of merges in the My Contributions feature of Family Tree?

@fnulnu1999 I think that's a great idea. I also think it would be good if the Contributions somehow took into account the user's impact on Data Quality Scores. Anything that encourages people to focus on quality rather than quantity.

The Contributions page already shows merges. I worked on this profile this week. I made new merges, in addition to ones I made several years ago.

Aine, I didn't make myself clear in my question. I am aware of what you mentioned about the description or nature of each change, but what I was suggesting is to have a "summary" number under the STAT submenu in My Contributions. just a thought ….

No other contribution type is in the title. Everything is under the single umbrella of My Changes.

Afraid I'll have to disagree with you on this one. As with the figure I'm shown under My Contributions for the number of profiles I have created in Family Tree, I think these statistics do not necessarily represent the value of the work we have actually carried out.
I had added many thousands of people, the Stats section tells me - but how many of those were duplicates of existing profiles?
Likewise, I'm sure I'd be shown a rather impressive figure concerning the number of merges I've made - but many of these might have not represented true duplicates and I just might have conflated the profiles of two totally different individuals (albeit of very similar characteristics). I obviously take great care not to do this in practice, but certainly find a great deal of other users carelessly merge individuals (usually having the same name) who never even lived in the same part of the world!
Obviously, there is / would be no way in reflecting such errors in the recorded statistics (whether for duplicates incorrectly added or for incorrect merges).
I admit I do take a check of "My Contributions" from time to time, but I'm sure these figures (accurate or not) in no way reflect the work I put into attempting to improve the integrity of the inputs made to Family Tree. For example, correcting the mess created by another user making just one incorrect merge can take me the best part of two days (especially if lots of children and sources have also been incorrectly attached), but there is no way my "stats" will ever give me credit for that kind of effort!

Paul W, I understand, so could argue that My Contributions serve little or no purpose because statistics hardly ever represent truth and in many cases serve as a negative incentive to many.
