I have two IDs, but I haven't been cloned (yet)
I am a living LDS member with an original ID (KW##-###). A newer ID (P3##-###) was created somehow last summer, but this one only has partial maternal info. How do I merge the two IDs? I tried the merge ID link, but it doesn't allow me to do it because "These two people cannot be merged because they are in different trees."
Under either the KW or the P3 ID I am linked to my mother, who has the same ID in both. In the P3 ID it doesn't show my father, who is living. My father shows under the KW ID.
I'm confused. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Where did you find the newer ID? Is it possible that it came from a Family Group Tree? If so, that would explain why the two profiles can't be merged.
One easy way to determine if you are participating in a Family Group Tree is to look at the main menu. It might look something like this:
When you click on the tree selector (I outlined it in red above), you will see an option other than "FamilySearch Tree" if you are participating in a Family Group Tree. If you see another tree listed there, then it would almost certainly be the case that you would see a different profile for you in the FGT. It might be quite similar, but it would definitely have a different ID.
If you're participating in a FGT, but you're not familiar with what that means, you can learn more about it in the Family Group Tree Guide.
It's also possible that you are looking at a tree you uploaded, but that seems less likely. That would be explained in the article The new GEDCOM upload experience. If you got a person ID from an uploaded tree, and tried to merge it with your original KW ID, you'd see the same error message.

You could having dozens of profiles on FamilySearch.
The message "These two people cannot be merged because they are in different trees" refers to the different tree spaces available. These are:
- The main Family Tree of deceased people. These are visible to all users. There should only be one profile for every person in the tree.
- The main Family Tree of living people. These are visible only to the users who created them. There will be a separate profile with a unique ID number for a person who has a living profile created by different users. This is certain to be where your KW##-### profile resides
- Family Group trees. These are living profiles that are shared among a group of users. There will be a separate profile with a unique ID number for a person who has a living profile in each group they might be in.
- User Trees. These are trees a user has created with both living and deceased people that only that user and other invited users can edit. Every profile here will also have a unique ID even if every single person in the User Tree is a duplicate of a person in the main Family Tree or in a Family Group tree. Only the creator and invited editors can see living people.
Profiles is different tree spaces cannot be merged.
So for ID numbers, you will have the one you see in your account, ones that your relatives have created under their accounts that you cannot see, ones in any Family Group that you belong to, ones in any Family Group that you do not belong to and so cannot see, ones in any User Tree you might have been added to that you can see if you belong to the User Tree, and ones in any User Tree you do not belong to and so cannot see.
You have not been cloned. But there can be photocopies of your Family Tree profile all over the place. Some of these you can see and some of them you cannot.
Now the big question: are you Living in both your profiles or has someone marked you as deceased in that P3##-### profile? If so, then you should change yourself to Living.
