Copying links from catalog images to Source entries in ancestor profiles no longer works.

Why can I no longer look up a record in the catalog, search the entry for a specific record, for instance a probate inventory for John Burroughs image 386/584 on the film below, but the link in the browser no longer takes me to the image so that I can copy and paste it into the Source entry "Web page (Link to the Record)" as part of citing the record? Instead the browser link masks the intended source link and goes to image 274/584, instead. I am not using the kludgy "Full Text Search" tool as it is very difficult to properly cite a record with that tool.

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-L9PX-FQFR?cat=koha%3A379047&view=explore&lang=en&groupId=M9N4-HZ4

The individual sources are also masked and the link only goes to the Source page overview, instead.

https://www.familysearch.org/en/tree/person/sources/K26J-VM5

1783 Inventory of the estate of John Burroughs, Prince William County, VA.

I have had some limited success by replacing groupId= with i=, (i=386, in this instance), but it doesn't always work and doesn't in this instance.. Assuming this has something to do with full text searching code changes? Is there a way to disable this "tool" or some other work around?

    @kwqd
    From your first URL

    https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-L9PX-FQFR?cat=koha%3A379047&view=explore&lang=en&groupId=M9N4-HZ4
At the top right, "Save Record"

    image.png

The dropdown option "Attach to person in Family Tree"

    image.png

allows you to attach directly to a profile. In addition, it will also allow you to attach to others who may be mentioned in the record.

Using this option adds a lot of difficulty to properly citing a record. See examples in linked Sources for properly citing a record. I finally found a workaround by removing this field "=explore"

    Change this:

    https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-L9PX-FQFR?cat=koha%3A379047&view=explore&lang=en&groupId=M9N4-HZH

    To this:

    https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-L9PX-FQFR?cat=koha%3A37904view&lang=en&i=385

Initially, I couldn't duplicate what you were seeing, but I think I know why… Strangely it depends on how you open the image reel from the Catalog

    Untitled-1.png

1 — If you right click, open in new window/tab, this is the url….

    https://www.familysearch.org/en/search/film/007645737?cat=koha%3A379047&i=0

When I navigate to the desired image this is the url from which I can successfully copy/paste ….

    https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-L9PX-FQFR?cat=koha%3A379047&i=385&lang=en

2 — However, you left click on the camera icon this is the url….

    https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-L9PX-FQRV?cat=koha%3A379047&view=explore&grid=on&lang=en&groupId=M9N4-HZH

And this is the url of the image, which cannot be used with a copy/paste

    https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-L9PX-FQFR?cat=koha%3A379047&view=explore&lang=en&groupId=M9N4-HZ4

From this image if I Save to Source Box this is the saved url which works just fine….

    https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-L9PX-FQFR

Very odd difference in behavior…. And is clearly a unintended 'feature'

In my opinion, the 'simple' url, as saved in the Source Box, is the one to go with

Thanks! I will take a look at this! BTW, "my way, i.e., left click", has worked since FS went to digital images, so something has changed.....

Using the URL modification (my) method automatically increments and decrements the page count in the URL. Using the suggested method above (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-L9PX-FQFR) automatically converts to "my" format once the page count is changed. Odd.

Don't love the new tools. Not good for properly citing records which I think is critical. The "good" things are improved keyword/name searching and ability to add records to multiple profiles, though a bit clunky to do so.
