I am trying to obtain the record of Caspar Friess who died in 1753 in Germany. I went to an LDS Library and did not make any headway. I then reached out to the LDS help desk and their response was: "in this case, we see a very odd combination of restricted records, digitally viewable records, and microfilm only records . . . all of which are pre 1900. So, in this case, we would recommend posting in the Ask a Question search community". Digital Folder 101121_575004_M9SJ-DQC Microfilm # 001476321 Item 34. Citation:

"Deutschland, ausgewählte evangelische Kirchenbücher 1500-1971", FamilySearch (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QPRF-NBNC : Thu Dec 04 09:54:43 UTC 2025), Entry for Joh. Caspar Frieß, 12 Apr 1753.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

    @RFriese Good afternoon

    Viewing DGS 102121575 from the Catalog shows that it contains records as recent as 1935 (marriages) and 1929 (deaths). Some of those would be restricted for reasons of personal privacy.

    That would explain the comment about mixed permissions. The reel icon no longer indicates "microfilm only," but does indicate that it's not available to view from my current location.

    @SerraNola Could you please look at this DGS? Probably mixed permissions across time periods.

    Thanks.

    @RFriese There are no mixed permissions on this film—all item numbers are designated as No Access, likely due to the inclusion of religious records up to 1935. I am seeing so many of these that I think they are likely not errors, but regulations that don't allow access to any part of the film.

    I have noted this item for follow-up in the event that future updates result in any changes to its status and should it be determined that the restriction has been applied in error, I will be sure to communicate that to you. It is not feasible, however, for Rights Management to conduct a review of every individual image group of this nature.
