IGI and Ped Resource File
Recently doing searches in FS, bringing up names that are in the Pedigree Resource File and the IGI, but not in FamilySearch:
- How is that possible? I thought FS was partly constructed off of IGI & PRF
- What good is it to list names from the IGI and PRF? I am not getting any new info on temple work, etc from either.
- When did this start? Why no announcement or explanation?

Partly yes and no.
As far as I remember, when FamilySearch FamilyTree was loaded, none of the profiles in the Pedigree Resource File were used to create the profiles in FS FamilyTree.
As for the IGI, that was split into its two parts (again, IIRC). Part 1 was the collection of extracted records that were copies of (say) parish registers. Those were loaded into FS FamilyTree. Part 2 was the collection of people's compiled genealogies - as with the PRF, none of those profiles were loaded into FS FamilyTree.
So this explains why you may find stuff in the IGI and PRF that isn't in FS FamilyTree.

Files added to the PFR later were not unless the user who uploaded them migrated them to Family Tree.
One aspect of being able to more easily search the IGI and PRF is that you will find the profiles as they were in their pristine condition before any editing or merging was done in New Family Search, the immediate predecessor of Family Tree, or in Family Tree. This can really help in untangle shoddy merges and other editing.
@HollyBell1 If you only want to get FIND results in Family Tree, then just say so:
Either before starting the search or after getting the initial results, narrow the scope of the search. After a search, this option is the last option in the right hand panel in which you can edit the search:
In the initial new search page, you narrow the search in either of the two spots circled below. Only the right hand one which you can only see if you click the more options link has the option to specify just Family Tree:
