Is the patron trying to create a new profile for the living spouse, or is he trying to connect to an existing profile that the living spouse has created?
Living profiles can only be seen by the user who created them.

@lmn68 This is correct, FamilySearch does protect the privacy of living profiles. However, you can add your living spouse in a few simple steps. Navigate to your own person page, click the Spouses tab, select Add Spouse, and enter their details, making sure to add them as “Living.” This creates a private record, visible only to you as it will not be searchable by others. If another profile for your living spouse already exists, you can use the “add by ID number” feature in the FamilySearch tree, using their unique ID number. This will connect your trees. I hope these answers will help you accomplish your goal!

I have to correct this statement that you can use the "add by ID number feature" to add a living profile to your private space. Every living person's ID number is visible and private only to the person to which it belongs or to the person who created the profile in their private space and will not be found if you try to add it. This has been the case from the very beginning.

Can multiple contributors enter the same living person into Family Tree?
Multiple users can enter a profile for the same living person into Family Tree. Each record has a different ID. If you change the profile of a living person, your change does not affect other profiles for the person.
