Uploading a ged.com document to Family Search genealogies

Hello, I have a ged.com document which I would like to upload to Family Search genealogies. In this document (which is a FTM document) I have approximately 9,000 names. Of these names about 500 are already in the Family Search Family Tree database. What happens to these names if they are uploaded - will they become duplicates, will I be able to view their Temple Ordinances, etc?

I was reading a Family Search article entitled "The new GEDCOM upload experience", which states that ged.com files can be set as private. Does this mean that the file will not be visible to anyone expect those users who I can invite to help with the tree?

Could you please clarify this.

Many thanks for your help.

    @Cedrus Libani
    The process of uploading a GEDCOM to FamilySearch is currently changing.
    There is dedicated group for Feedback and Questions.
    https://community.familysearch.org/en/group/338-user-trees-feedback

    Some of the Help Articles may not have been updated. As recently as January 2026, the Help Articles were out of sync with the process.
