Why does the UK Birth Registration Index show a "death date" instead of a "birth date"?
All of the UK Birth Registrations in the "England and Wales, Birth Registration Index, 1837-2008" are showing birth dates as death dates:
Name | Harriot Robinson |
|---|---|
Death Date | 1843 |
Event Type | Birth Registration |
Event Date | 1843 |
Event Place | Stepney, London, England |
Page Number | 464 |
Volume | 2 |
Note that the 'Event Type' is a Birth Registration, but there is a 'Death Date' in 1843. There should not be any death information in the UK Birth Registration index. All deaths are in the UK Death Registration index. As far as I can determine, this incorrectly labeled text field is a consistent issue throughout the entire UK Birth Registration Index. This error shows up on all the Birth Registrations I have checked.
Mislabeling a birth as a death has the potential cause massive problems on FamilySearch very quickly – especially less experienced researchers working on FamilySearch. Is this glaring error connected to the other recent issues with the UK Registration Indexes?
I assume the quickest fix would be to turn off the visibility of the Death Date field. Any insight?
