In Help build the global tree for everyone, what do I do when the records need to be merged?

Two Examples below:

Needs to be merged into
Thomas Halliwell This source is attached to someone else in Family Tree: Thomas Halliwell LL4F-G9C.

Elizabeth Halliwell (Wife)
This source is attached to someone else in Family Tree: Elizabeth Roberts LL4F-CKB

This Thomas Halliwell (Son), Male, 1868-Deceased, LWVG-438
Needs to be merged into
Thomas Halliwell (Son), 1868-, This source is attached to someone else in Family Tree: Thomas William Halliwell LLWM-NJQ

Please advise,

Sherman Cameron

    Hello!

I figured it might be easier to do this, and explain how so that you can do it yourself next time?

To merge two people together (that aren't showing up as duplicates in the "research help" section), scroll down to the bottom of the page, and look on the right for "Merge by ID" under "Tools". Here, you can type in, or copy-paste, the other ID, and merge them.

I also merged Thomas Halliwell (LL4F-G9C)'s duplicate parents.

I did not merge the duplicate in the first screenshot, because of the different birthplaces. (marked as not-a-match)

As for the son that you would like to merge, I disagree. I put them together by using the Merge by ID tool, and the birthplaces aren't quite right. They are also married to completely different people.

Thomas Halliwell (LWVG-438) is married to a Sarah Elizabeth Hardy.

Thomas William Halliwell (LLWM-NJQ) is married to Catherina Gertruida Petronella Van Tonder.

The dates their children were born do not match up.

As such, I don't think that they are the same people, or belong to the same parents.

Thomas Halliwell, at the time of this writing, has two biological sets of parents attached to him. I am going to attach him to only the set that the other Thomas isn't attached to. Here's a screenshot for clarity.

Here's the family they both were attached to: (as a reminder, I am not completing this merge. this is just an easy way to get them side by side.) There are also more siblings down below I couldn't fit in the screenshot.

The screenshot above (second screenshot) is the family that I will keep for Thomas Halliwell (LWVG-438). This couple, while having the same names, was married in a different year completely. They also have completely different children, and the years in which the children were born do not match up at all.

I resolved this issue by removing him from the family, so now each (separate) Thomas Halliwell has one set of parents and one wife. Both sons, both fathers, and the grandfather.

Final note, I merged Thomas Halliwell (LWVG-438)'s duplicate wives. And Thomas William Halliwell's duplicate brothers. (two edward franklins born in same year)

Sorry if you wanted to do this work yourself… I left the ordinances, so that you can take them to the temple. There's also a lot of record hints that can still be attached. Good luck with the rest of your family history work! 😁
