At the time the Salt Lake Temple opened, it was the policy for couple to obtain licenses in their home counties and taking these documents to the temple..  After the temple marriage was performed, the license with completed certificate attached was returned to the county where obtained. --Pioneer era!
My ancestors married in the Salt Lake Temple.  The county records show the place as Salt Lake City for marriage.  It has a stamp on the certificate that states that the marriage was performed according to the church .......for all time and signed by the elder at the temple.  However, it is very misleading because the records themselves are NOT from Salt Lake City, and it does not state the name of the temple on it.   I have had to inform numerous people about the differences between licenses and certificates, and that even IF the certificate is currently obtained with county records, they actually used the license to marry in the temple.
I believe that the people involved who are dead would like this to show on Family Search in the SOURCES PAGE, but  AI will not accept "Salt Lake Temple" as part of the place, even though I highlighted the place and also the large area showing the stamp from the temple and the elder's signature.  I believe that this should be changed, since many couples are involved and this has been overlooked many times.
Please see: James Bruce  LZ3Q-C46     The problem is in the sources attached, not the individual's page.  I have even had to change the place on the "profile page" because of this.
I also think that sources should not be labeled as "Marriage" if they are indexes of marriage licenses or licenses only.  Many are like this.A license does not mean the same thing as a certificate for marriage.  A marriage is a legal document; a license merely is the INTENT to marry.  Thanks for listening!  Marla Bezold  Please reply at : (email removed)
