Possible duplicate is unrelated
How do I go about deleting a duplicate person in my tree that is not in any way related to my tree. There is a "Peter Franklin" born in 1824 and a "Peter" born in 1826 to the same couple. Both have a son named "Thomas", but born 4 years apart and with different middle initials. I believe Peter Franklin is my great-great-grandfather. His son Thomas is the right age; his son Thomas had a son named Edward Walter, who had a son name Ralph, who had me. Edward Walter is the informant on his father's DC (Thomas M), and his Uncle Samuel. Both DCs list Frank or Franklin as the father, with mothers that match marriage records. The other "Peter" doesn't have anything in common with "Peter Franklin" other than 1 son's name, and two marriages (wive's names don't match). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

@CDNsMom Hi, this type of issue is handled by managing the relationships that tie individuals together. Relationships include parent/child and couple relationships. You go to the person page for the various people to review and edit the relationships they have. You can remove any incorrect relationships and add correct ones. Here is a link to the instructions. Hope this helps. Let us know if we can be of further help.

@CDNsMom Good advice from @Wayland K Adams. Once I have them sorted correctly, I add comments for each person, explaining why they differ, with the hope that it will stop people from merging them in the future.

Thank you @Wayland K Adams and @shecorwe. Once I disconnect the relationships associated with the "wrong one", can I delete him from the tree? Or will it automatically disappear? I believe the "right one" and the "wrong one" to be two separate people.

As indicated, when you remove the relationships, the person will automatically be removed from the tree. Think of it this way. The tree is just a reflection of the relationships connecting individuals together. If there is something wrong on your portion of the tree, it is because there is something wrong with the relationships on one or more persons. Get the relationships correct, and your tree will be correct. Another thing to check are the sources for each individual.

Once you 'disconnect' the individuals they will no longer show up as associated to the previously erroneous folks. However, they will still exist, just not 'connected'. They will not be deleted, unless you created them and you delete them, but doesn't sound like that's what has happened here. It would be a nice gesture to find the 'more better' home for the disconnected person by reviewing their sources and attempting to establish proper relationships. As was mentioned, this would help prevent future inadvertent merges

I agree with @Mark McKenzie_1 — the other user likely needs help in using FS procedures or finding their person in sources other than blogs. wikitrees or imported GEDcoms
