Android Family Tree app Chat error: Cannot open embedded link to profile

I have numerous chats which contain an automatically-embedded link to a profile. When I tap on the link in the Android FamilyTree app, an error message is displayed:

An unexpected error occurred while connecting to FamilySearch. Please try again later. If the problem persists, report the issue to Support.

• This happens on my phone which is running the app version 5.4.0.
• The profile opens properly on another Android phone which is running an older version of the app (4.8.16).
• The profile opens properly in the website on my Windows 10 desktop (Chrome).
• It happens on all such chats, of any vintage.

I am having the same problem and also had a guest call in to Support today.
