merging entities in census generated trees with individuals in other trees

I find a "possible" duplicate in a census generated tree fragment which corresponds to a fragment of my family tree. How can I merge the ids of the corresponding people. I tried to follow the directs but get an error message.

I get the same error message when trying to merge the id of my father in my tree, to an id created by the sister-in-law of my sister in her tree,

The message says

  • At least 1 of the 2 people cannot be found. Include valid IDs.

But the ID is exactly as copied from the record.

@Brenda22195 You can add (copy/paste) the information found in the census-generated tree to your branch of the FamilySearch main tree, but you can't merge profiles across platforms.

If your father is still living, you have a profile for him in your private space. Your sister-in-law has a profile for him in HER private space. Again, not possible to merge in that case.
