How to document a person with a birth name and a different adopted name after his mother remarried.

Please see profile for Donald Perrotti https://www.familysearch.org/en/tree/person/details/PZHY-G6P I had included an alternate name based on what I found in Find a Grave. Further research uncovered two other profiles for the same individual with his changed name of Donald Gerald Kravitz https://www.familysearch.org/en/tree/person/details/G45L-91D and https://www.familysearch.org/en/tree/person/details/G45L-D6W but with the wrong parents. I've yet to work through those wrong parents. My basic question is what should one do when an individual has two different names? Part of me wants to leave the profile with t birth name, but other part is leaning towards merging with the profile for the name he used through out most of his life (after I sort through the parental issue, of course). Help! Thanks!

The great option in the FamilySearch tree - Alternate Names! You can document each of them. And, both the hinting algorithm and the search process use all of the alternates.

I mostly use Birth Name as the primary, but everyone has their own preference, and we can each follow our own methods.

    This article should help:

    https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-enter-my-ancestors-name-if-it-changed

I've had a few relatives change their names to something more American or easier to pronounce or spell.
I put their birth name in the "Alternate" names section of "Other Information."
I then list their most recent legal name in the Vitals section along with a copy-paste of that article link in the "reason" underneath so that other users are informed.

Thank you! I saw that you had attached the 1950 Census. I added some wording about parents to make it clear which Donald Kravitz the source pertained to. Appears that there's been confusion about the two. I hope to find birth and death info about Donald Perrotti Kravitz. I'm not convinced that the two were born and died on the same day. Thanks again!
