    Why are people adding to and making changes to my tree? I've seen a lot of sloppy work and bad information on Family Search. It's discouraging.

    I don't use this site because I do not want anyone adding to my tree.

    I checked many the contributors to my tree. They all copied my records. No one added info that I have not already found. It seems well over 90% of the contributors are relatively new researchers. If they just copied my tree, they have not yet learned to do their own research to be SURE that what I have is correct. If I have errors anywhere, they are copying my errors. That's not a good research habit. Then again, most of them are 6, 7, 8 generations down from our mutual relative match.

    @vje @PhyllisAdamson @kathrynbirch1

    It's important to understand that there is really no concept of 'my tree' in the FamilySearch Family Tree, which is a single global collaborative tree. Others may use and/or edit your entries and their relationships as they wish (unfortunately some editors are more careful and/or more capable than others); conversely, you may use and edit their entries as you wish. You can also communicate with another editor by clicking on their name in the Change Log, though they are not obliged to respond.

    If you prefer to work with your own separate tree under your own control, have a look at the FamilySearch User Trees facility (previously called 'CET').

    @MandyShaw1
    Please provide a link on how to get started with a "User Tree".
    I've searched the website and googled. All I found was a developer's guide, not a user guide.

    The project was a Labs experiment until very recently. I've been told the team is working on new and updated documentation.
    Here's one: https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/the-new-gedcom-upload-experience

    And the dedicated User Trees Feedback group: https://community.familysearch.org/en/group/338-user-trees-feedback

    @Nyx773 The ability to upload a Gedcom file to create a User Tree is still not available for everyone. It is being reworked some more before opening for additional testing. You can join the group that Aine listed to watch for when it will either open for additional testing or become available for all users.
