Why do you send e-mails promising information that link to old information.

I received an e-mail titled "See who has been contributing to your family tree." I clicked the link "See contributors" and found contributions that were very old. Since I look at the weekly changes to people you follow, I would have seen these in a more timely manner.

None of the changes made in 2026 were on the list. This was a total waste of time and appears to be a marketing gimmick. I thought familiesearch.org was a serious genealogy site. It makes me sad that it seems to be coping all the marketing gimmicks used by sites like ancestry.com.

    You can turn off those notifications, if you prefer.

    @karenannjohnson2
    I too received that worthless and ridiculous email today. All the contributions were several years old. However, please note the email does state "Top" contributors and not "Recent" contributors. And off the top of my head, the users listed do seem to be the most prevalent contributors on my tree, including user "TreeBuilding Project".
    I promptly trashed the email and got on with my day. Had completely forgotten about it until you posted.

    I do not want to turn off notifications because I have received other emails from FamilySearch that have actually been worthwhile.

    Yes, it did say top contributors. It also prompts you to say thank you. A thank you for someone who contributed several years ago is not worth any thing. I have thanked people in the past when I noted their contribution shortly after it was made.

    The reason that I have not forgotten the e-mail is that it is seems to be part of a trend to hype useless information as a marketing device that contributes NOTHING to real research!

    Hey guys, I'm going to gently remind you that kindness is our motto. Please try to be kind even in your frustration. I do understand your frustration as I reviewed your comments and looked at my contributors page. I'm not sure why the content is so old, but I am having marketing look into it. Thanks for reporting this so we can make it better 🤗.

    It isn't intended to be useless although it will likely be more meaningful to some than others. Nor is this just a marketing gimmick. It's purpose is to celebrate the contributions of others and offer a chance to thank them. We just need to work on the content being updated - big time 😕.

    @karenannjohnson2 I love that you take the time to offer thanks in real time! That's truly awesome. I'll let you know what I find out! Sam 🙂

    I have talked with marketing and they are looking into why the content is so old with their engineering teams. Again, thanks for sharing your thoughts on this. It helps us to fix things that aren't working correctly and make things better for all of you. Sam 😊
